Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt was an Austrian artist active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with his peak between about 1890 and 1918, also called the Jugendstil period. Gustav Klimt’s father was a goldsmith, and his profession had a significant influence on Gustav’s artistic development. His love of gold and the techniques used by his father were strongly reflected in Gustav’s work. He often used gold leaf in his paintings. The shimmering gold elements appear in his most famous works “The Kiss” and “The Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer.

Klimt was part of the Vienna Secession, a movement that opposed the traditional art of his time. His best-known works include “The Kiss” and “The Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I.” These paintings are characterized by sensuality, complexity and a rich decorative style. He was one of the most recognizable artists of his time and his influence can still be found in contemporary art.

Goebel’s Artis Orbis collection features his works in objects made of high-quality porcelain and glass.
